MEDITATION: The Ultimate ‘Maha Mantra’

Follow and Flow in its Feel !!!

It’s THAT time of the year once again. It is Exam Time. Exam, a very small word weighs a tonne if you are a student. What are exams? Exams are the inevitable truth of every student’s life. It is a process to assess how good someone is at something. It is one of the most common ways to evaluate a student’s understanding.

It is one of the vital methods devised to analyse a student’s potential academically. Students become apprehensive of being judged and rated which leads them into depression. Examinations have various side effects as well. They are often known as Trauma, Phobia, Fear and Insomnia. They not only affect a child’s mental equilibrium, but also his overall personality, growth and development.

To be honest, examinations are unavoidable but one also cannot call them futile. It has its own pros and cons. And who doesn’t have the exam fear? I had. I am sure you would also have. Everybody at some point of time in their life has passed through this phase. Some have the fear of failing while others fear that they may not score the highest. It’s as natural as breathing. You are not abnormal if you fear exams.

To counter this common mental ailment, all the good schools uphold counselling sessions to calm down students and bring out their brighter side but most of such sessions are for namesake. Even parents, I feel have a vital role to play. But blindly following the rat race, parents fail to give a helping hand to their child in need.

I, being a Principal and having an experience of many years as a teacher who has been dealing with such cases day in and out, feel that we are lacking in our very approach. There is a need to bring a sincere shift in the way that we look at this problem.

I choose and advice Meditation to be an effective way to overcome the Phobia of exams. The word Meditation, takes our mind on a tour where it visualizes a serene, pious environment with peaceful and divine music and an embodiment engrossed in the thoughts of the Greatest. It is a place, where you remember the Lord and a time when you regret and pray for forgiveness. If this is the picture that your mind drew when I said Meditation, then I Ritu Rajnish would like to differ.

To me Meditation is not just a time to remember the Almighty. It is an ongoing, dynamic process to eliminate the ills and the evils. Meditation is a Mahamantra which needs to be chanted 24X7. Meditation simply means to constantly keep oneself away from the ills. Meditation is a way to flush out the ill thoughts and ill feelings. If one can’t spare time to sit in front of the idols of the GOD but can keep himself away from the ill approaches and deactivate all his ill connectivity, that is meditation. Meditation during exam time fights out the ills that are hurdles to a smooth walk through the exam phase.  The evil most ill of the examination is the television. Some substitute it with mobile phones, whatsapp or facebook.

To all those readers, who are undergoing similar fear, my only advice is to go for Meditation. That one phone call which you make to your friend hoping to share your anxieties of the upcoming exam disturbs him. If you can avoid that call and not disturb your friend, then that is Meditation.

Exam Time is crucial not just for students but for parents as well. I would not hesitate to say that parents need to mediate a lot more during exam time. The ill that parents need to foremost get rid of is the ill of over expectation. If a parent doesn’t compare his child to others, that is Meditation. A parent allowing his child to grow and work in his own capacity is Meditation. The mere thought of not being able to match up to the parents’ expectation pushes the child into the dark pit of depression.

A parent giving the just environment to his child to study is Meditation. We expect our children to shake off all the worldly desires but if we refrain ourselves from going to parties and attending weddings as well, then that is Meditation. We want our kids to concentrate only on studies but if we as well compromise on our favourite T.V soaps, then that’s Meditation. How can your child wake up early to study if you sleep sluggishly in your cosy bed? A child needs moral support and backing and he looks up to his parents the first.  It’s not fair to tell your son to spend the day aloof in his room with his books when you are busy in hosting a kitty party at home. Meditation is when a parent cancels all her plan just to sit and morally support her chid who is studying for exams. My experience with my own kids has taught me that the exam time is equally an as serious affair for both the parents and the child. It is the moral responsibility of a parent to model the guidelines that he expects his child to portray.

We should not forget that children are human beings as well. They are more delicate ones. We must stop expecting them to work like machines. Parents should understand that even they need a BREAK. It’s a crime to force children to study when they yearn to relax and take a break. Parents are often seen threatening, bribing or emotionally black mailing their child to study more. A child is left helpless when he is not heard. All he can do is to go back to his books with half heart and no mind.

In a nutshell, my definition of Meditation is 24X7 Positivity, Meditation is 24X7 high Spirits, 24X7 constantly following of duties and responsibilities. Differentiating the good from the bad is Meditation. Understanding that marks are not the end of life is Meditation. If Parents and Students know the Do’s and the Don’ts during examination days and they follow it, is Meditation. Exams not only test learning, it tests Parenthood. By constantly meditating together one can reach near to God. Once we reach THERE, then everything else will surely be taken care by HIM.
